What it does

Repetitive work, handled. Decisions stay with you.

DeskFox doesn't think for you. It handles repetitive work so you can focus on decisions that matter.

📄 Document Companion

Read, edit, and summarize Word / Excel / PDF / Markdown. Right-click any selection to add it to chat with auto-located context. The viewer auto-refreshes after the model edits a file.

✍️ Drafting Assistant

Draft emails, weekly reports and meeting notes from your topic and key points. Review the output before using it.

📊 Data Wrangling

Excel formulas, CSV cleanup, pivot analysis, basic charts. Translate "I have a sheet, show me the trend" into charts and conclusions—no formula learning required.

🔐 Privacy First

Files and chat history are stored locally. Prompts and file content used for AI requests may be sent to the selected model provider under its terms. Anonymous usage statistics and session sharing are described in our privacy policy.

Data Security

Local files. Clear model-provider boundaries.

Local-first

Document processing happens on your machine. Chat history is stored in a local database. API keys are encrypted and kept locally — they never reach any DeskFox server.

Auditable Open Code

MIT-licensed, fully open on GitHub. Every line of code and every commit is public — read it yourself, or have someone you trust read it.

Pick Your Model

Free models, your own API keys, or self-hosted (coming) — different sensitivity, different choice. You decide who sees your data; no vendor lock-in.

Transparent Network Activity, No Hidden Calls

Basic anonymous usage statistics are disclosed in our Privacy Policy; publishing a session uploads its content as described in the sharing notice; there are no hidden calls. The source is fully open — anyone can verify.

Why DeskFox

Plenty of AI tools out there—we solve "can't install, can't use, can't trust."

DeskFox is not "another ChatGPT wrapper"
it's a desktop assistant designed around real office workflows for non-developer users.

Open & Auditable

MIT-licensed open source, full code on GitHub. Worried about where AI tools send your data? Read the code yourself, or have someone you trust read it.

From sst/opencode

Forked from sst/opencode, an open-source project audited daily by global developers. Inherits a stable engineering foundation. Our job: translate it for office users.

Free Models Built-in

OpenCode Zen free models bundled (MiniMax / Hy3 / Nemotron). Install and chat. No top-up, no API signup—the default options are usable from day one.

Switch Models Freely

Need more power? Switch to Claude / GPT / Gemini or domestic Chinese models with one click. Your API keys, your control—no vendor lock-in.

Native, Cross-platform

Windows uses Tauri + WebView2; macOS uses Tauri + WKWebView. Fast startup, low footprint, direct local file access. Better than juggling browser tabs.

Multilingual UX

Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and English UI. Prompts and shortcuts designed around real-world office habits in each language.

About DeskFox

From a developer tool to your desk-side companion.

Background

DeskFox is a fork of sst/opencode. The original is an AI coding tool for developers; we forked it and repositioned it as a daily AI work companion for office users—simplified UI, rebranded, enhanced document preview, and engineered packaging and release.

We keep the MIT license, publish all changes on GitHub, and follow upstream releases. Every line of code—including the build and signing pipeline—is visible in the repository.

! Windows install: about the first-launch "security warning"

The Windows installer is currently unsigned, so Windows may show a publisher or SmartScreen warning. Check the download source before deciding whether to proceed. If no installer window appears, report your Windows version and the error through GitHub Issues; this symptom can have multiple causes.

  1. Download from the linked GitHub release or listed mirror.
  2. Read any Windows warning before continuing. Cancel if you are unsure.
  3. Use the installation support link below if the installer does not open.
Latest releases via GitHub · View all versions

Your first task, in three steps.

  1. Install the build for your computer and open DeskFox.
  2. Choose a bundled model or configure your own provider. Start with a non-sensitive copy of a document.
  3. Ask for a short summary, check it against the original, then try an edit on the copy.

macOS update notice for older versions: If you're on 2026.8.0 or earlier, clicking "Install and Restart" may do nothing — a known minor issue in older builds. Please download the latest version and reinstall over the top once (your data is kept); auto-update will work again afterwards.
