Does FoxTake Work Offline? On-Device Features and Online AI
FoxTake records, prompts, recognizes supported speech, edits and renders on your iPhone. Optional online AI sends text for AI Polish, AI Check and caption translation. Disabling online AI does not make every language available offline or remove credit requirements for credit-based features.
What runs where?
| Feature | Processing | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Recording and prompting | On iPhone | Permissions and storage. |
| Dictation, Voice Follow and source captions | Supported on-device speech | Supported language resources. Dictation does not use credits; Voice Follow and one-tap video use credits. |
| Cuts and rendering | On iPhone | One-tap video uses credits even when processing is on device. See the terms for remaking existing videos. |
| AI Polish | Online text | Uses credits. Current draft sent after agreement. |
| AI Check | Online text | Uses credits. Recognized words with timings and script. |
| Online translation | Online text | Uses credits. Caption text; supported target. |
Where does online text go?
Requests pass through FoxTake's server on Amazon Web Services in Tokyo, then Alibaba Cloud Model Studio in a Tokyo workspace configured for inference within Japan. These text features do not upload the video picture or original camera recordings. Cloud audio transcription is not currently offered.
Our proxy holds content while handling the request and does not retain or log its content. Alibaba Cloud may retain inputs and outputs under its terms and legal requirements. We do not enable separate model-training consent. Provider account, support and security metadata may be handled differently. This is not end-to-end zero retention.
Separately, our server keeps a credit ledger linked to the app transaction identifier Apple creates for your Apple Account in FoxTake, plus purchase and security metadata. No separate FoxTake login is required; this does not mean no identifiers are processed.
Control online AI
Leave online AI off, disable AI Assist for Videos for AI Check and online translation, and avoid or disable AI Polish in script options. Agreement is required before online processing. Supported on-device functions remain available; credit requirements still apply to credit-based features.
With online AI off, translated captions can use supported on-device translation. A language resource may need an initial download, and not every language pair works. Inspect the message and result if translation fails; missing second captions are not a completed translation.
Prepare for a disconnected session
- While connected, check the speech language and required resources.
- Check your credit balance and the requirements of the functions you need. Credit checks, purchases, restoration and entitlement refresh can require connectivity.
- Make a short test using the planned features with online AI off.
- Keep storage available for source and rendered media.
On-device processing does not mean a feature is credit-free, or promise that credit checks, initial downloads, App Store actions or every language work without connectivity.
If online AI is unavailable
Online AI uses credits and depends on connectivity and service availability, with additional daily usage protection. Supported on-device results remain available when online AI cannot run; this does not remove the credit requirements of new one-tap videos, Voice Follow or project export. Check what the app says was skipped; it does not mean an unsupported language was automatically handled locally.
